Angie was born on June 18, 1960 in
Pana, IL one of four daughters to Gene Schmitz and Marie
Horsthemke. She graduated from Pana High School, and then went on
to a B.S. degree in Marketing from Southern Illinois University.
While at Southern, Angie met her future husband, Ken and the two
were married several years after graduating, on November 25, 1983.
The two started married life in Bloomington, and then moved to
Seattle, WA for several years, before returning to Central
Illinois. She worked at State Farm for seventeen years. Angie
worked part-time after the birth of the first of two daughters
before finally leaving to stay home and pursue her first love, the
raising and nurturing of her girls. After the girls were old
enough, Angie took her skills back into the work force in the
administrative office of Home Sweet Home Mission. She worked there
until illness took her away in the summer of 2010.
She leaves behind her husband, Ken,
of twenty-nine years and their two daughters, Emily and Anna, at
home in Bloomington; her mother and stepfather, Marie and Bob
Horsthemke of Pana, IL; her father, Gene Schmitz of Pana, IL; four
sisters, Gina (Scott) Shuff of Pana, IL, Laura (Doug) French of
Sparta,IL Denise (Richard) Harmon of Floresville, TX, and
Angie (John) Rutherford of Pana, IL; one brother, Robert (Jennifer)
Horsthemke of Washington, IL; her father and mother-in-law, Jerry
(Mary Jane) Detloff of Bloomington; and many nieces, nephews,
and friends.
Preceding her in death are her
grandparents.
Angie's unmistakable charm and
character are evidenced by the friends and loved ones that
surrounded her. Every life she touched, even if only briefly, was
brightened. Friendships were always deep, caring and meaningful,
and the needs of others always took precedence over hers. Her love
and devotion to family was only surpassed by her love for her Lord
and Saviour, in whose Kingdom she now resides. The best way to
grasp the depth of her influence was to see the amazing prayer and
support she received as she battled the illness that took her. It
was truly beyond words.
Her legacy of beauty and grace,
given to her by her remarkable mother, will now be carried on by
her beautiful daughters. They and her husband, Ken go on now, in
service to the Lord, in her memory and in the joyous promise of a
heavenly reunion.
