Service Date:October 19th, 2011

LOIS E. DETLOFF Bloomington- Lois E. Detloff, 94, of Bloomington, IL, passed away at 5:15 am on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at McLean County Nursing Home in Normal. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 18, 2011 from 5:00-7:00 pm at Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home in Bloomington. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bloomington. Burial will follow the service at Park Hill Cemetery in Bloomington. She was born March 24, 1917 in Towanda, Illinois, a daughter of Earl and Belle Crose Fillmore. She was raised in the Towanda area and graduated from Towanda High School in June of 1935. On September 21, 1935, she married William “Bill” Detloff of Bloomington. Their marriage lasted 67 years until Bill’s death in 2003. She leaves behind her children, Jerry (Mary Jane); Marv (Lois); Karen (Ken) Downen; and Steve (Sherry) all of Bloomington; nine grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and also many loving nieces and nephews. Lois worked at Kirlin’s Candies for several years, but first and foremost, she was a homemaker, mother and farm wife. Her pies were legendary, her homemade noodles were a bit of heaven, and the cookie jar was always full. She loved playing games with her sisters, brothers, and friends. Sewing was another specialty whether it was for her, the kids, or even doll clothes, they were always perfect. She also enjoyed painting ceramics, her knitting club, and sports. She rarely missed her boys ball games, but her real love was the “Cubbies” and never missed watching as long as she was able. Lois was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, and four sisters. She remained very close to all her sisters, brothers, nieces, and nephews; she relished the time she was able to spend with them. So many fun vacations with Kaye and Dale, winters in Arizona with Maxine, playing Yahtzee with Pat and her god child, Judy. Ken and Angie helped Mom in so many ways and she appreciated the time and attention. Thanks to all of you who made her happy in so many ways. Our mother was a very special lady and we already miss her so much. The family would like to thank all of those who cared for her. The staff at the McLean County Nursing Home provided wonderful care and gave her love daily. We especially want to thank Dr. Steve Kindred. Dr. Steve always went above and beyond, finding a way to take care of her. Not just a doctor but a friend. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Online condolences may be sent to the family at kiblerbradyruestman.com.
