Henrietta Ritchie

Eureka-Henrietta Ritchie, 86, of Metamora, IL formerly of Eureka, IL passed away at 8:20 am on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria, IL where she had been a patient for only one day.

She was born on April 2, 1926 in Secor, IL a daughter of George and Henrietta Gassner Goebel. She married Anthony H. Ritchie on March 19, 1955 in Jeffersonville, IN. He passed away on March 21, 2004.

Survivors include three sons, Craig (Sherry) Schertz of Metamora, IL; Randy (Judy) Schertz of Eureka, IL; Brian (Renee) Ritchie of Columbia, TN; one brother, Leo Goebel of Washington, IL; one sister, Arabelle Chismark of Chillicothe, IL; ten grandchildren, and nineteen great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.

Henrietta was valedictorian of her class in 1944.  She was employed as a bookkeeper for Heyl Motor Company and later Johnson Accounting.  She enjoyed working so much she had to be talked into retiring at the young age of 75.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Eureka United Methodist Church, and the United Methodist Women.

In her younger years, she and her husband Tony enjoyed their 20 plus years involved with the Eureka Little League. Her door was always open to her three sons and their friends anytime day or night.  She enjoyed making tacos for them and most of them called her "mom".  Her favorite past time was weekend dancing with her husband and their friends.

She had been residing at Snyder Village Assisted Living Center in Metamora for the past 3 years where she enjoyed visits from her family and friends, musical activities, Bingo, out to eat on weekends with her boys, and playing cards.  She especially looked forward to the annual Goebel reunion held each year at the 4-H park with over 100 people in attendance.  Henrietta will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at the Eureka United Methodist Church.  Rev. Ron Martz will officiate.  Visitation will be held on Friday evening at the church from 5-8 pm.  Cremation rites will be accorded.  Argo-Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home in Eureka is assisting the family with their arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Eureka United Methodist Church.  Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.ruestmanharrisfuneralhome.com.
