James Hugh Vickers, 81, passed away at 9:08 a.m. on Tuesday January 24, 2012 at the Illinois Veterans' Home in LaSalle.  He was born on March 14, 1930 in Chicago, IL to the late Joseph and Mona (Clark) Vickers.  He married Carol Lucille Cikanek on September 17, 1955 in Oak Park, IL, she survives.

Also surviving are five children, Kimberly (Howard) Grossman, of Seattle, WA, Timothy Vickers, of Phoenix, AZ, Theodore Vickers, of Belvidere, IL, David Vickers, of Lihue, HI, and Rebecca (Bradley) Naylor, of Chillicothe; and grandchildren Michael Sharick, Laura Sharick, Christopher Oltman, Edward Vickers, Gabriel Foster, Matthew Vickers, and Samuel Vickers.  

He was preceded in death by one son, Matthew James Vickers.

Jim served in U.S. Army during the Korean War, where he earned his Combat Infantry Badge and reached the rank of Staff Sergeant.  He was an apprentice in the Plasterers Union in Chicago for 4 years and remained a member of the union for 47 years.  He owned Vickers Plastering.  Jim and Carol owned and operated the Green Tree Motel in Naperville. He also worked at Methodist Medical Center and farmed for many years in the Lacon area. Jim had an appreciation for antique cars and a love of restoring them.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday January 27, 2012 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lacon, with a viewing one hour prior.  Father Tom Mizeur will officiate.  Burial will follow the service at Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery where military rites will be accorded by the Walter Guede American Legion Post #593.  Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday January 26, also at the church; with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m.  Memorials may be made to the Illinois Veterans' Home-LaSalle or to the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lacon.
