Richard Wood

Richard Wood, 84, of Lacon, Illinois died on November 19, 2021 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Born on February 12, 1937 in Peoria to Gilbert and Elizabeth (Newkirk) Wood, Richard joined the Army and served in Korea in the 40th Armored Division at the demilitarized zone. He married Helen Galli on July 1, 1961 in Sparland.

Richard worked at Caterpillar, retiring as a general foreman from the heat-treating plant in 1989. After retirement he owned an antique business for 20 years with his wife Helen. Richard loved hunting, fishing, antiquing with his wife, and making custom crafts for family and friends.Richard is survived by his wife Helen of Lacon; daughters Cindi (Mark) Carrier of Peoria, Cheryl (Rick) Bunton of Oregon IL; grandchildren Andrew (Erin) Bunton of Omaha NE, Katharyn Bunton of Chicago, Hannah Carrier of Peoria, Jacob Carrier of Peoria; great grandkids Hugh and Graham. He was preceded in death by his father Gil Wood, mother Elizabeth and her husband Carl Kroepel.

Cremation rights have been accorded and a private family service will be held at a later date.  Memorial contributions can be made to The American Cancer Society or The National Coalition for Homeless Veterans, and online condolences can be left at lenzmemorialhome.com.
