Ruth Mathewson

Ruth E Mathewson, 81 of Lacon Ill., formerly of Livingston Mont. and Morton Ill. died on March 3, 2021 at UnityPoint Methodist in Peoria. Born in Middleburg Pennsylvania on June 11, 1939 to the late Ernest and Isabelle (Howell) Zechman, she married Maynard Mathewson on June 25, 1960 in Middleburg. Maynard died on August 13, 2002.

Ruth is survived by her sons Steven (Priscilla) of Libertyville Ill., David of Littleton Col., Mark (Kim) of Lincoln Neb., Kevin (Ellen) of Bartonville; sisters Carolyn Hoffman of Middleburg, Gloria (Robert) Apple of Mount Pleasant Mills Penn., Martha Zechman of Galloway N.J., Patricia (Kim) Spigelmeyer of Galloway N.J.; brother Mike (Terri) Zechman of Absecon N.J.; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Ruth, first and foremost, loved Jesus. She shared His love for others with everyone she met. Ruth served most of her life as a pastor's wife. She also worked as a Pharmacy Tech at Family Discount Drugs in Lacon until she retired shortly before her 80th birthday. Most recently she loved leading a women's Bible study in Lacon. Her family remembers Ruth for her hospitality to others, her cooking and baking, a beautiful singing voice, her love for Christmas and decorating her home, and being an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Funeral services for Ruth will be held Monday, March 8 at Calvary Bible Church at 11 AM with Steve Mathewson officiating. The family requests you wear a mask while inside for the safety of others. Burial will follow in the Lacon Cemetery and memorials can be made to the Calvary Bible Church. Online condolences can be left at lenzmemorialhome.com.
