Alta Mae Myers, 90 of Peoria Illinois, died on July 19, 2022 at her residence surrounded by her family. Born in Honesdale, Pennsylvania on February 21, 1932 to the late Earl and Elma Batzel Bigart, she married Dr. Robert T Myers on March 28, 1953 in Emden, Illinois.
Alta graduated from Wheaton College and West Suburban Hospital School of Nursing in 1952, in Oak Park, IL, as a Registered Nurse. She then worked as a night floor Supervisor at West Suburban Hospital, and later worked at Bradley Health Center for several years. She also was a volunteer for the Red Cross Bloodmobile, American Cancer Society, Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts. She was a member of the Peoria Medical Society Auxiliary, and Methodist Hospital Service League.
Alta was a loving, kind and devoted mother and wife. She saw herself as a caregiver, providing services to family and community. She provided moral and ethical instruction to those around her by example. Alta kept an orderly household and exhibited a calm, loving attitude to her family and those around her. She could expertly organize a family outing or a picnic on short notice. Alta celebrated the goodness of others and enjoyed all aspects of life. She met the challenge of being a young military wife raising three children. She loved her husband of 69 years, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She saw travels and adventures as an exciting challenge that she took in stride. Boating, gardening, planning and participating in family social events were some of her favorite activities.
Alta is survived by her husband Robert T. Myers MD of Peoria; children Clifford (Cecilia) Myers MD of Peoria, Kathleen (Les) Johnson MDs of Brimfield, Herbert (Audrey) Myers of Maple Grove, Minnesota; nine grandchildren; and 11 Great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by three siblings Charles Bigart, Victoreen Hansen, Eugene Bigart; and grandson David Myers.
The family wishes to express a special thanks to caregivers: Nurses Caring for People and Dr. Thomas Kouri and his staff for unfailing professionalism and the kind and compassionate care she enjoyed in her last years.
The family has planned a private family funeral for Alta to be held at Lenz Memorial Home in Lacon, Illinois. Burial will be in the Lacon Cemetery immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in her name to Cedar Hills Baptist Church 12716 N. Allen Rd., Dunlap, IL 61525. Online condolences can be left at lenzmemorialhome.com
