Eureka- Bernon "Bernie" Thayer
McClallen, 89, of Eureka, IL passed away at 6:15p.m. on Thursday,
March 20, 2014 at Unity Point Health-Methodist in Peoria,
IL.
He was born on January 7, 1925 in Peoria, IL a son of Bernon T.
and Louise Hersemann McClallen. He married Marda J. Dorward on July
7, 1946 in Eureka, IL. She passed away on August 24, 2003. Later
married Mary Kenagy on June 4, 2005. She passed away on February 9,
2006.
Surviving are five sons, Steven(Marti) McClallen of Eureka, IL;
Dr. Gerald(Dr. Debbie) McClallen of Carbondale, IL; Randall
McClallen of Eureka, IL; Michael(Neveda) McClallen; David(Molly)
McClallen of Eureka, IL; one daughter, Janet(Bert) Otto of
Naperville, IL; one sister, Phyllis Muller of Peoria, IL; 16
grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; two step
grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one
brother.
He was a lifelong farmer in the Eureka area. Bernie
went thru the Caterpillar apprentice program to get his engineering
degree. He worked at Wabco in Peoria as an engineer. He then
managed and operated Metamora Industries for 35 years retiring in
1986. After retirement he drove the school bus for Eureka
School District #140.
Bernie was a member of the Eureka Presbyterian Church, Kiwanis
Club, Masonic Lodge #98 in Washington, IL and Eastern Star Chapter
115. He also was a 4-H leader and he ushered for the Bloomington
Center for Performing Arts.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00a.m. on Monday, March 24,
2014 at the Eureka Presbyterian Church. Pastor Nollan Harwood will
officiate. Visitation will be held from 4-7p.m. on Sunday, March
23, 2014 at Argo-Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home in Eureka. Masonic
services will be held on Sunday, March 23, 2014 at 7p.m. at
Argo-Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home in Eureka. Burial will be in Olio
Township Cemetery in Eureka.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Eureka
Presbyterian Church or Apostolic Christian Home of Eureka. Online
