Charles W. Lundgren, 88, formerly of Varna passed away Saturday, June 27, 2015 at Heartland Healthcare Center in Henry, IL. He was born on Aug. 3, 1926 the son of the late Clinton and Lucille Franklin Lundgren.
He lived his entire life in Roberts Township as a farmer. He assisted his father and grandfather in general livestock farming, but his great love was for Hereford cattle. He enjoyed helping others with livestock care and improvement. He and his parents served in many different capacities at the M-P Fair in Henry and Charlie received a United States flag as an award from the fair in 2002. He had attended the fair every day and night for 60 continuous years. He was an avid reader with a great capacity for recall and was a go to guy with any questions about people or history. He was tolerant of all religions that he considered would make people better. He will be missed by many.
He is survived by cousins and special friends, Jim and Wendy Kingen. Cremation rites have been accorded. Following Charlie's wishes there will be no services and private burial next to his parents in the First Lutheran Cemetery in Varna will be at a later date. Lenz Memorial Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the M-P Fair Association or the M-P 4-H & Extension Foundation. Online condolences can be left at lenzmemorialhome.com
A special thanks to the many compassionate caregivers at Heartland Healthcare Center in Henry who made his life more comfortable these past 2 years.
