Ruby "Jean" Cory, 94, of Lacon formerly Sparland, died on July 8, 2018 at St. Joseph Nursing Home in Lacon. Born on January 24, 1924 in Hopewell Township to the late Ray and Corita Lane Carlson, she married Charles Cory on October 13, 1943 in Lacon. Charles died June 26, 1989.
Jean was a wildly talented individual. She was a seamstress for RG Granert, Princess Peggy, & the Lacon Woolen Mill; cooked meals for 12 years at the Duck Inn and worked as peoples home caregiver; a stock car racer, animal lover, passionate volunteer & community member; she supported troops & veterans in the Legion Auxiliary and could play numerous musical instruments.
Jean is survived by one daughter Billie (Richard) Lindstrom of Varna, 11 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and 10 great-great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by four sisters, one brother and three of her children: Chuck Cory, Carolyn Jean Endress, and Jackie Smith.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, July 12 at 11 AM at Lenz Memorial Home in Lacon with Bob Murphy officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service and burial will be in the Lacon Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the Lacon Community Center or St. Joseph's Activity Fund and Online condolences can be left at lenzmemorialhome.com
