Dan Wiegand
Eureka - Daniel R. Wiegand, 85, of Eureka, IL , passed away at
11:40 am on Friday July 26, 2013 at the Apostolic Christian Home of
Eureka
He was born on February 10, 1928 in Deer creek, IL to Daniel and
Lena Aberle Wiegand. He married Verla Getz on October 22,
1950 in Roanoke, IL. She survives.
Also surviving are four sons, Ronald (Kary) Wiegand of
Eureka; Larry (Lori) Wiegand of Congerville; Richard (Sue) Wiegand
Eureka; Mike (Janice) Wiegand of Deer Creek; three daughters,
Patricia (Jon) Knapp of Eureka; Cynthia (Randy) Schmidgall of
Goodfield; Carol (Kim) Craig of Congerville; three sisters,
Elizabeth Blunier of Eureka; Margaret (Mel) Getz of Peoria;
Charlene (Bob) Schumacher of Eureka: one brother, Elton (Loretta)
Wiegand of Eureka; 27 grandchildren; and 52 great
grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Lois
Wiegand and Norma Hangartner; three brothers, Willis, Robert, and
Kenneth Wiegand; two great grandchildren; and one daughter-in-law
Barb Wiegand.
An Army veteran, Dan proudly served his country during the
Korean War.
He was a lifelong farmer in the Deer Creek area. He
also sold Wick Buildings and continued to do so for 26 years until
he retired in 2008.
Dan had served as a fireman and fire chief for the Deer
Creek Rural Fire District for many years. He was a member of
the Goodfield Apostolic Christian Church where he had served as a
church trustee, song leader, and Sunday school teacher.
A loving husband, father, grandfather, and great
grandfather, Dan was an inspiration to his family and
friends. The family would like to thank the staff at the
Apostolic Christian Home of Eureka and OSF Medical Center for their
loving compassion and care.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Monday July
29, 2013 at the Goodfield Apostolic Christian Church. Church
ministers will officiate. Visitation will be held on Sunday
from 1-5 pm at the Goodfield Apostolic Christian Church Fellowship
Hall and from 9-9:45 am on Monday morning at the church.
Burial will be in the church cemetery. Argo-Ruestman-Harris
Funeral Home in Eureka is handling the arrangements.
