Doris Zimmer

May 16, 1939 — May 23, 2018

Doris A.  Zimmer of Varna, passed away on May 23, 2018 at Heartland Health Care Center in Henry. Born on May 16, 1939 in Streator to the late Roland and Agnes Bathgate Coleson, she married William Zimmer on May 14, 1961 in Varna. Bill passed away on October 29th, 2017.
Doris is survived by daughters Gail Shane of Toluca, & Sheryl (Jo) Schulte of Milan, grandchildren Travis Schulte  of Milan, Taylor (Cody) Adams of Moline, and Tyson Schulte of Hutchinson, KS. and two great grandchildren: Chesnee and Krew. She was also preceded in death by her brother Dale Coleson.
Doris owned her own beauty salon and retired after 45 years. Nothing in life paused for Doris, even when confined to a wheelchair. She enjoyed traveling with Bill through the years as they were heavily involved in control-line model airplane events. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Varna. In recent years she was especially fond of playing bingo at the nursing home and winning prizes for her great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed doing crafts with the other ladies at Heartland, getting ready for their yearly exhibit at the fair. Doris lived for her family and that was evident every time she was able to visit or be visited by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Cremation rights have been accorded and a memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 3 at Lenz Memorial Home in Lacon at 1 PM, with a visitation held one hour prior. Burial will be in Salem number two in rural Varna and memorials can be made to Heartland Healthcare Activities Fund. On line condolences can be left at lenzmemorialhome.com
