Evelyn Westefer

October 20, 1926 — April 1, 2018

Evelyn L. Westefer, 91, of Chillicothe, died on April 1, 2018 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Born October 20, 1926 in Worth Township in rural Woodford County to the late Joseph and Amanda (Winkler) Durst, she married Donald E. Westefer on March 18, 1946 at St. Patrick's Parish in Camp Grove. Don preceded her in death on August 31, 1993.
Also preceding her in death daughters Patricia A. Treutle, Linda L. Parrish, & two infant daughters; seven brothers: Howard, Harlan, Quentin (Jim), Clifford, Wesley, Joseph, and Gerald (Jake) Durst; two sisters: Bernadine Fauber and Geraldine Kenyon; one infant sister, Amanda; and grandson Senior Chief Petty Officer William Ryan Owens.
Surviving are: her son Donald L. (Becky) Westefer of Plains, MT, grandchildren Dawn (Mike) Kear of Lowpoint, Andi Coccia of Lacon, Chris (Fran) Westefer of S. Bend IN, Jeff Parrish of Sparland, & Kristen Treutle of Atlanta, GA; great grandchildren: Aaron (Morgan), Adam, Jakey, Brooke, Luke, & Taryn, AJ, Sophia, & Seth; great great grandchild Adelyn; son-in-Law Marty Parrish and many loving nieces and nephews.
Evelyn worked at the Lacon post office for many years and, at times, detailed to Sparland and Henry offices as OIC. She retired January 31, 1987, after thirty years of public service. She was a member of the Lacon Congregational UCC.
During her lifetime, sewing was her hobby (and passion), producing dozens of ice skating costumes for her granddaughter Kristen, and over 500 chamois and camouflage shirts for family and friends- even a stranger or two, among the many other sewing projects.
Cremation rites have been accorded and a memorial service will be held on Saturday April 14, 2018 at 1pm at Lenz Memorial Home in Lacon with a visitation held from 11am-1pm before service. Burial of cremains will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery Metamora and memorials can be left to Lacon Congregational UCC, Wounded Warriors Project, or Navy Seal Foundation.
