Harold E. Hodel
Eureka-Harold E. Hodel, 93, of Eureka, IL went to be with his Lord
at 2:40 am on Thursday, April 17, 2014 at the Apostolic
Christian Home of
Eureka.
He was born on April 3, 1921 in Roanoke, IL to Chris and Elizabeth
Schumacher Hodel. He married Mildred Anliker on September 2,
1945. They celebrated 68 years of marriage together.
She survives.
Also surviving are three children, Beth (Curtis) Rocke, Kent
(Janet) Hodel, Karen (Doug) Martin, eleven grandchildren,
twenty-six great-grandchildren, one sister, Flo Wuthrich; and one
brother, Bob Hodel.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Steven; and two
sisters, Marie Goetzinger and Ann
Wagler.
Harold graduated from Roanoke High School and served in the US
Army in Europe during WWII from 1942-1945. He was awarded two
bronze stars and one silver star for his courageous efforts.
He was a farmer in Metamora and the founder and owner of Hodel's
Eggs. In addition to his farming career, he served his
community well for many years being active on many boards,
committees, and fund raisers including hosting and traveling with
AFS students.
He was an active member of the Apostolic Christian Church in
Eureka where he served as trustee, Sunday school teacher, and
superintendent. Funeral services will be at his church at 10:00 am
on Saturday, April 19, 2014. Church ministers will
officiate. Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm on Friday
evening at Argo-Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home in Eureka and from
9-9:45 am on Saturday at the church. Burial will be in the
Roanoke Apostolic Christian Cemetery.
Harold will be sorely missed by his church and his family whom he
greatly loved and enjoyed. He will be remembered for his
stained glass creations and his love of working puzzles.

Apostolic Christian Home of Eureka or Unity Point Methodist
