J. Rod Noland

February 8, 1930 — November 13, 2013

Normal - J. Rod Noland, 83, of
Normal, passed away at 2:41 p.m. on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 in
Normal at Heartland Heath Care.

Per Rod's wishes, cremation rites
have been accorded.  In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made
to the Autism Society in Rod's name.  Kibler-Brady-Ruestman
Memorial Home in Bloomington is assisting the family with
arrangements.

Rod was born on February 8, 1930 in
Des Moines, IA a son to S. B. and Lillian (Russell) Noland. He
married Mary E. Watts on July 10, 1952 in Des Moines, IA.  She
survives.

In addition to his wife Mary, Rod
is survived by, a daughter, Julie (Kevin) Collins of Normal; a son,
Thomas (Lynda) Noland, of Spring, TX; three grandchildren, Alicia
Collins, of Springfield, Isabel Noland and Max Noland, both of
Spring, TX; two step-grandchildren, Jackie Hill of Brisbane,
Australia and Christopher Hill of Spring, TX.

He was preceded in death by his
parents, a son, Michael Dennis Noland, his step- mother and a
brother, Russell Noland.

Rod graduated from East High School
in Des Moines, Iowa  in 1948 and then graduated from Drake
University in 1952 with a Bachelor's degree in economics.  He
was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon at Drake
University.

He served  in the Iowa Army
National Guard from 1947-1949, he was drafted  into the Army
in 1952 and served his country in the Korean War.

Rod was employed at State Farm from
1955 starting in the Underwriting Department and then went to the
Health Division and later worked in the Agency Advertising and
Sales Division until his retirement in 1992.

He enjoyed woodworking,
photography, gardening, and painting with oils and
watercolor.  He loved spending time with his family and
traveling in the motor home.  Rod was a member of the
Bloomington American Legion Post 56.
