James Shanklin

September 9, 1940 — June 30, 2018

James A. Shanklin, 77, of Varna, died on June 30, 2018 at Liberty Village Manor Court in Peoria. Born in Streator on September 9, 1940 to the late Walter and Elsie Holz Shanklin, he graduated Valedictorian from Toluca High School in 1958. Jim served his country in the Army and graduated from the University of Illinois in 1962.
Jim farmed the Shanklin family homestead as a third generation farmer. For over 25 years he taught school in the Tri County area as a substitute teacher, umpired high school baseball, softball & summer ball, and was a substitute school bus driver. Jim was a member of Antioch Christian Church, a Mason & Shriner, and was on the local Farm Bureau board for 25 years.
Jim is survived by his daughter Bunny (Tim) King of Bloomington, sons Heath Shanklin of Murfreesboro TN, Brooks Shanklin of Peoria, Bryce (Caroline) Shanklin of Nolensville TN, Hugh (Danielle) Shanklin of Nashville TN, sister Doris Jean Hull of Fresno CA, brother Robert Shanklin of Toluca, Roger (Sheila) Shanklin of Lexington, and 13 grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by one sister four Brothers and one granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held Saturday July 7 at 10 AM at Antioch Christian Church in Toluca with Reverend Bob Idell officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday July 6 from 4 to 6 PM at Antioch Christian Church with a Masonic service at 6 PM. Burial will be in the Antioch Christian Cemetery in Toluca and memorials can be left to Shriners Hospitals, Midland Education Fund or his church.
