Kathryn J. Waldschmidt

April 8, 1924 — February 26, 2023

Varna

Kathryn Josephine Waldschmidt, 98, of rural Varna Illinois, died on February 26, 2023 at Saint Margaret’s Hospital in Spring Valley. Born April 8, 1924 at Saint Margaret’s in Spring Valley to the late Barney and Mary (Vacca) Bima, she married Leonard T. Waldschmidt on August 16, 1947 at Saint Patrick’s Church in Hennepin Illinois. Leonard died on October 30, 2017 after 70 years of marriage together.

Kathryn always wore a smile, her kindness and generosity in service of the Lord radiated throughout her life. She was beloved as a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. There is no doubt that Kathryn is walking with Jesus and all those that preceded her in death. Though she will be missed by all in this world, we need only look to each other to be reminded of her love for life.

As a farmwife, Kathryn and Leonard farmed together, she was the support crew with meals, errands and the completing of the unending chores of farm life. She will always be remembered for her homemade ravioli and pastries.  Kathryn loved gardening, canning, and country music.  Didn’t travel very often but always reminisced about their trips to Nashville and Branson.

Kathryn is survived by her son Leonard (Gay) Waldschmidt of Varna; daughters Linda (Larry) Tonelli of Peru, Joyce Kiesewetter of Henry, Brenda (Ron) Watkins of Lacon; 13 grandchildren; and 29 great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her daughter and son in law Janice and Anthony Beltramea; sister Emma Zielinski; and Brothers John Bima and Barney Bima Jr.

A Mass will be held on Monday, March 6, 2023 at Immaculate Conception Church in Lacon at 11 AM with father John Mujuni officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Metamora. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude, Saint Margaret’s Hospice or Immaculate Conception Church and online condolences can be left at lenzmemorialhome.com
