Lillian F “Sue” Downey, 87, of Lacon, Illinois died on July 10, 2021 at her home surrounded by her family. Born in Lone Tree, Iowa on May 23, 1934 to the late Francis and Dora (Copple) Pearson, she married Charles W. Downey Sr. on May 23, 1953 in Henry. Charles died on June 21, 1978.

Sue was a CNA for Saint Joseph’s Nursing Home for many years. She then worked at Country Comfort Retirement Homes in Henry and Magnolia.

Sue will be remembered for her love of taking care of people and her family. She was known for her green thumb, fried chicken, love for canning and playing the piano. Sue was kind and had big heart. Known to many as grandma or Gigi.

Sue is survived by her children Sarah (Larry) Bogner, Jerry Downey, Audrey Downey, Beth (Steve) Ashmore, all of Lacon; six grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her brother Robert, sisters Carol and Marion, and her sons Charles Jr. and Robert.

Funeral services for Sue will be held on Tuesday at 11 AM at Lenz Memorial Home in Lacon with a visitation held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Lacon cemetery and memorial contributions can be made to Unity Point Methodist Hospice. Online condolences can be left at lenzmemorialhome.com
