Sister M. Alphonse Husak, 98, of the Daughters of Saint Francis of Assisi in Lacon, passed into eternity on Tuesday, January 26 at Lacon Rehab and Nursing Home in Lacon with loved ones at her bedside. Born in Sebechleby Slovakia on November 25, 1922 to the late Jan and Anna Husak, she entered the Congregation of the Daughters of Saint Francis of Assisi at 17 in Bratislava Slovakia on June 25, 1941 to begin her religious life. She professed her first vows on August 15, 1944.
Sister Alphonse volunteered to be one of the 15 original sisters who were commissioned to establish a new branch in America at age 24, right before her perpetual vows in 1947. Her deep faith and trust in God made her ready to leave her country, immediate family, and religious sisters' culture to become a missionary in the Midwest. Sister Alphonse obtain her nursing degree through Saint Mary's Hospital in Kankakee and worked tirelessly as Director of Nursing specializing in labor and delivery for over 45 years in rural Missouri at their Saint Francis Hospital in Mountain View before retiring to the mother house in Lacon
Sister Alphonse, a faithful daughter of Saint Francis of Assisi for over 75 years, impacted those around her through her deep continuous prayer life. She celebrated the 75th anniversary of her religious vows in 2019.
Sister Alphonse is survived by her sisters in Christ in the Daughters of Saint Francis of Assisi mother house in Lacon, and her sister Francesca and brother Stephen in Slovakia.
There will be no visitation due to COVID 19 and a private mass of Christian burial will be held for Sister M. Alphonse at the Daughters of Saint Francis of Assisi Mother House in Lacon with burial in Immaculate Conception Cemetery following.
