Mary Piper

Mary Marzella Piper, 92, of Lacon died on September 13, 2015 at her residence. Born on March 27, 1923 in Streator to J.R. and Anne Connor Cahill, she married Charles Piper on November 28, 1947 in Lacon. Charlie passed away on October 1, 2000.

Marzella was a teacher for over 30 years for the Mid- County School District, mostly as a Title 1 reading instructor. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Lacon and its Altar & Rosary Society. She also volunteered at St. Joseph's Nursing Home as a Pink Lady.

Marzella is survived by her children, Anne (Scott) Sprangers of Janesville, WI; Chuck Piper of Galesville, WI; Jim (Becky) Piper of Carlisle, PA; David Piper of Peoria; grandchildren; Stephanie, Chris, Ben, Joe, Connor, Matt, Shelly, Alexis, Colleen, Molly, Dylan, Libby; great grandchildren; Piper, Abigail, Amelia, and Bridgette.

She was also preceded in death by her brother, Roger Cahill and her parents.

Services will be Thursday, September 17 at 11 am at Immaculate Conception Church in Lacon, Father Tom Mizeur officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5-7 pm at Lenz Memorial Home in Lacon with a Rosary to be said at 4:30. Burial will be in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery.

The family would like to thank Christie Nelson and Paula Briggs for their caring friendship which allowed Marzella to live her last years with dignity at home.
