Mary Ann Sutherland of Lacon, formerly Sparland died at her home at 12:31am July 24, 2014. She was born in Peoria on December 6, 1948 to the late Richard G. and Fern Head Sutherland.
Whether you know it or not you might of spoke to Mary Ann, for the past 26 years she has been one of the voices of 911, sending help when it's needed most. Backing up our officers and EMS personnel from the Marshall County Sheriff's Office dispatch room, her cool head and knowledge helped save many lives. She was a member of Teamsters Local 637, an EMT on the Lacon Sparland Ambulance for 12 years, and has worked at the Lacon Casey's General Store for the past 17. If you knew Mary Ann she was an avid Bingo player, locally and on trips with her friends. She dabbled in Bunco and played softball in her earlier days, it seems she was everywhere.
May Ann is survived by her children; Terese (Jeff) Cochran of Varna, Ritchie (Rita) Sutherland of Henry, Shawn (Angela) Sutherland of Sparland, and Dawn (Dennis) Harper of Peoria; siblings Richard L. (Barb) Sutherland of Lacon and Sherri (Richard Kimble) Moore of Lacon; 10 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 6 nieces and nephews; and 12 great nieces and nephews.
Services will be on Monday, July 28 at 11:00am at Lenz Memorial Home in Lacon. Visitation times are Sunday from 4-6pm and one hour prior to the services at Lenz. Memorials can be made to The Sheriff's Department protective vest fund. Online condolences can be left at lenzmemorialhome.com
