Millie Shaffer

Millie Shaffer, 92, of Lacon passed away at 11:45pm July 2, 2014 at Saint Joseph's Nursing Home in Lacon. Born November 23, 1921 to the late George and Lucy Duncan Boyd in Carthage, IL she joined the Navy as a WAVE shortly after high school. On her last station in St. Louis she met seaman Ellis Shaffer and married him on Christmas Eve in 1944 in St. Louis. They had 3 children. He preceded her in death on November 8, 2003.
Surviving Millie are her children Thomas (Linda) Shaffer of Lacon, Neysa Lettin of Centennial, CO; and Gordon (Ellen) Shaffer of Midland, VA. Also surviving are six grandchildren: Eric, Matt, Michael, Maren, Jacob, and Joshua, and great grandchild Tommy.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorial service will be held at 7:00 pm on Monday, July 14 at Lenz Memorial Home in Lacon. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Private inurnment will be at a later date in Moss Ridge Cemetery Carthage IL. Memorials can be made to St. Joseph's Nursing Home. Online condolences can be left at lenzmemorialhome.com
