Monte Schumacher

December 28, 1941 — February 5, 2015

Montie Lou Schumacher 73 of Varna passed away quietly at 3:15pm Thursday February 5, 2015 surrounded by her family at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice House in Peoria.

Montie, along with her twin sister Mona, were born on December 28, 1941 on the family farm in rural Sparland to the late Mahlon and Wilda Bachman Hunt. She married Gary Schumacher on Februrary 5, 1961. He survives.

Also surviving are a daughter Annette (Greg) Gruhn of Lanark; son Bradley Schumacher of Varna,; grandson Tyler Gruhn of Lanark; and brother William (Carolyn) Hunt of Sparland. Montie's surviving nieces and nephews are Laura (LeRoy) Poignant of Sunrise Beach, MO; Jenny (Kevin) Frazier of Danvers; Tim (Emily) Toliver of Anaheim Hills, CA; Loren (Christine) Hunt of Lacon; Amy (Brian) Herron of Morton; Allison Schumacher of Peoria; and great nephew Matthew (Jenny) Lowry of El Paso. She was also preceded by her twin Mona Laible and special Aunt Jane (Jack) Lowry.

Montie graduated from Sparland High School in 1960. After marriage to Gary she lived on the family farm in Varna where they worked alongside each other for 54 years. She enjoyed spring planting, fall harvest, and raising cattle and hogs. Her favorite time of the year was spring calving season and the birth of newborn calves. Montie never missed a cattle show or sale. She especially enjoyed talking to people and selling show supplies from the "Sullivan" trailer with her son Brad. Her greatest joy was watching her grandson Tyler exhibit cattle.

Montie was a school bus driver for Lowpoint- Washburn school district for 16 years. She liked driving the athletes to the sporting events and watching their games.

All of the neighbors knew how she loved to cook and anyone was welcome at mealtime. Her yard was full of brightly colored Gerbera Daisies. Montie and her faithful Blue Healer Bailey, spent many hours driving the golf cart around the farm and visiting neighbors. She was an Active member of the Crow Meadow Presbyterian Church of LaRose.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Heartland Healthcare in Henry and The OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home of Peoria for their excellent care.

Services will be held on Monday February 9 at 11am at the Crow Meadow Presbyterian Church with a. visitation one hour prior. Daryle Stonier Officiating. Also, a visitation will be held on Sunday February 8 from 2-5pm at Lenz Memorial Home in Lacon. Burial will follow at the Crow Meadow Cemetery in rural LaRose.

In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the OSF Richard L. Owens hospice house, Varna Ambulance, or her church.
