Roderick E. Long, 77, of Sparland died on August 7, 2015 at Grandview Special Care in Peoria. Born on January 11, 1938 in Lacon to the late Herman and Josephine Keedy Long, he married Sharon White on March 21, 1970 in Bloomington. Sharon died April 14, 2004.
Rod spent 36 years at Caterpillar from a welder to Quality Control repairman; he also repaired household appliances in the community for over 30 years.
Rod was a member of the Lions Club, Lacon-Sparland Fire Department, Lacon-Sparland United Methodist Church, and President of RSES. He served his country in the Army during Vietnam.
Rod is survived by: his daughters Heather (Tom) Dossett of Lacon; Dorothy (Alex) Jeffries of Chillicothe; Jennifer Long of El Paso, TX; sisters Edith (Duane) Rinkenburger of Lacon; Barbara (Harold) Walden of Lexington, NC; 5 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; one step-grandchild; and one step great-grandchild.
He was also preceded in death by his sons James and Jake, brother Dale, and sister Linda.
Services will be Tuesday, August 11 at 11 AM at the Lacon Sparland United Methodist Church with Mike Barclay officiating. Visitation time will be one hour before services at the church. Burial will be in the Lacon Cemetery.
