Verlin Keith Egly

Verlin K. Egly, 87, of Varna Illinois, died on November 13, 2023 at his home, surrounded by his family. Born in Decatur, Indiana on Christmas Day, 1935 to the late Alvin and Minnie (Worthman) Egly, Verlin served his country as a fighter pilot in the United States Air Force and air National Guard for 28 years. Later he flew DC-10’s for United Airlines from 1968 until he retired in 1995 as a management, captain.

Verlin married Janice Burroughs in 1958. She passed in 1975. He later married Johanna Downey on March 25, 1976 in Sycamore Illinois. she survives.

Verlin is also survived by his children Scott (Andrea) Egly, Steve (Staci) Egly, Karen (Seth) Egly-Thompson Bob (Diane) Hamilton, Bill (Roxanne) Hamilton, Jason (Leslie) Hamilton; brother Doyle (Phillis) Egly; 11 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his daughter Dr. Carla Egly-Schuyler, and six brothers.

Cremation rites have been accorded and there will be a celebration of Verlin’s life in the spring. online condolences can be left at lenzmemorialhome.com
