Virginia G. Argo
Eureka- Virginia G. Argo, 99, of Eureka, passed away at 4:05 am
on Friday August 16, 2013, at the Apostolic Christian Home of
She was born on August 16, 1914 in Danvers, IL to Albert H. and
Irene Dunlap Otto. She married Donald H. Argo on February 11, 1934
in Normal, IL. He passed away on March 8, 1989 after 55 years of
Surviving is one son, Barnard (Carolyn) Argo of Danvers; one
daughter, Sharon (Pete) Hanner of Eureka; three grandsons, Andrew
(Susan) Argo of Eureka; Matthew Argo of Elgin, IL; Bradly (Heidi)
Hanner of Western Springs, IL; four great granddaughters, Cathrine
Argo, Emma Argo, Maggie Hanner, Maureen Hanner; and one son-in-law,
Gibert (Lana) Hasenyager of Eureka.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Beverly
Hasenyager; one brother, Harlan Otto; and two sisters, Marjorie
Otto and LaVerne McClure.
Mrs. Argo was an active partner in the family owned businesses.
She and her husband owned and operated Argo Hardware in Danvers, IL
and later the Otto-Argo Funeral Homes, located in Danvers, Eureka,
Virginia was a member of the Eureka Christian Church where she
had been active in the choir and a myriad of other church
functions. She was a member of the P.E.O. Chapter IQ, ENK, 4-G,
20th Century Club, Women's Club, Kaufman Park ladies league, Eureka
dance club, Eastern Star, and several bridge and pinochle
She was also a Eureka College Delta Delta Pi Patroness and had
volunteered for the American Red Cross helping with their blood
Mrs. Argo was an experienced global and domestic traveler. She
was an avid reader and was well known for her baking and crewel
handiwork, as well as her love for entertaining.
She treasured her family with which she has been blessed with
and took special delight with time spent with her four great
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Monday August 19th
at Eureka Christian Church. Rev. Jennie Churchman will officiate.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm on Sunday at
Argo-Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home in Eureka and from 9:30-10:30
before the services at the church on Monday. Burial will be in Park
Lawn Cemetery in Danvers. Argo-Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home in
Eureka along with Otto-Argo-Calvert Funeral Home in Danvers are
assisting the family with arrangements.
