Virginia A. Murphy

Virginia A. Murphy, 93, of Washington Illinois, formerly Lacon Illinois, died on October 14, 2023 at River Crossing of East Peoria. Born on July 17, 1930 to the late Clyde and May (McAllister) Longman, she married Robert D Murphy on October 9, 1948 in Galesburg. Bob died on April 6, 2005.

Virginia is survived by her children Mike Murphy of Lacon, Rob (Cherie) Murphy of Washington, Kathleen Minton of Washington; grandchildren Jenny (Chris) Block of North Carolina, Laura Divelbiss of North Carolina, Michelle Perry of Kansas, Nicole Wise of Washington Illinois, Ryan, Jenkins of Seattle, Stephanie (Darrin) Autry of Morton, Greg Jenkins of Lincoln Illinois; and eight great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her daughter Roberta and grandson in law Tim Divelbiss.

Virginia was one of the last of the old-fashioned homemakers, taking care of the children, the home and her husband, all while loving shopping, friendships and even the coffee fellowship at the Congregational Church in Lacon. She was a lover of animals, especially dogs, rescuing many over her lifetime. Virginia really enjoyed the Starbucks that came with the shopping trips in her later years.

Cremation rites have been accorded and graveside burial of ashes will be held in the Lacon Cemetery on Monday October 23 at 11 AM. Memorials can be made in Virginia’s name to TAPS Animal Shelter 100 TAPS Ln, Pekin, IL 61554 and online condolences can be left at lenzmemorialhome.com.
