William "Bill" F. Cordes, 85, of Lacon passed away at Unity Point Proctor in Peoria on Saturday, August 27, 2016.
Bill was born on January 15, 1931 in rural Marshall County to the late W. Clare and Nellie Crank Cordes. He married Clara Pat Clark on December 2, 1961.
He is survived by his wife, two daughters, Suzann (Thomas) Spada of Springfield, Mary (Brad) Rohman of East Peoria, two grandsons Brian Rohman and Adam Rohman, two step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren. Bill's brother, Walter (Louise) Cordes also survives in Henry, IL.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Mearl Cordes, and his sister Sandra Cordes Daniels.
Bill was a 1949 graduate of Lacon High School. After working on the family farm and other odd jobs, he worked for Continental Grain Elevator in Lacon. Bill also had a distinguished career as a public servant serving Lacon Township as the Assessor for 16 years and a Trustee for 12 ½ years, the City of Lacon as a Revolving Loan Officer and the Zoning Board of Appeals, Marshall County Coroner's Jury for many years and finally Marshall County Grand Jury for a two year period.
A visitation will be held at Lenz Memorial on Friday September 2 from 10-11am with a procession to graveside for burial in the Lacon Cemetery immediately following. Memorials can be made to Lacon American Legion. Online condolences can be left at lenzmemorialhome.com.
