William Zimmer

William R. "Zim" Zimmer, 79, of Varna, died on October 29, 2017 at Heartland Healthcare in Henry. Born on April 6, 1938 in Peoria to the late Willie and Mary Schmidt Zimmer, Bill served his country in the Army from 58-60. He came home and married Doris Coleson on May 14, 1961.
Bill was an avid model airplane pilot belonging to the academy of model aeronautics for over 30 years and was a member of the Precision Acrobatic Model Pilots Association and Hall of Fame member. He and his wife Doris were members at first Lutheran Church in Varna. For 30 years, Bill worked as a Teamster truck driver for C.A. Powley, R.A. Culinan and Kenny Holmstrom. He was an avid Cubs, Bears, Blackhawks and Fighting Illini fan.
Bill is survived by his wife Doris; daughters Gail Shane of Toluca & Sheryl (Jo) Schulte of Milan; Sister Pam Walker of Lake Wildwood; grandchildren Travis Schulte of Milan, Taylor (Cody) Adams of Moline, & Tyson Schulte of Champaign; and great grandchild Chesnee.
Cremation rights have been accorded and a memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 4 at 11 AM at Lenz Memorial Home in Lacon with a visitation one hour prior. Burial of cremains will be at Salem #2 in Varna. Memorials can be made to Heartland Henry Activity Fund and online condolences can be left at lenzmemorialhome.com
