Willis McKnight

Willis "Bill" McKnight, 93, of Metamora, formerly of Lake Wildwood, Varna and Belvidere, Ill., died on June 26, 2020, at Snyder Village in Metamora. He was born on September 15, 1926 to the late Claire and Margerie (Ocker) McKnight. Bill married Marion Viets on December 23, 1950, in Varna.
Bill is survived by his wife, Marion; three children, Jim (Patricia) McKnight of Cortland, Ill., Jane (Chuck) Strybis of Shelby Township, Mich., and Jeff (Vicki) McKnight of Wenona; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by one sister and one brother.
Bill served our country during World War II in the Navy.
He was a teacher for 35 years in the Rockford school District. He then spent over 20 years working at the Marshall County Airport which was rooted in his love to fly.
Bill was a member of the Wenona American Legion, the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, the National Education Association, the Illinois Education Association.
Bill was a member of Saint Paul's Lutheran Church in Varna where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 29, 2020. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Saint Paul's Lutheran Cemetery.
